How to Share a Localhost Website With a Link

Local Tunnel shares one website from your computer, using only the browser. Guests open a link such as https://my-app.ramg.pro/ and see that site. SSH, databases, and other raw ports cannot be shared this way.

Open the Local Tunnel — Share a localhost Website

Step 1: Start the site and note the port

Run the site on your computer. Note the port in the address bar, such as 8080 or 3000.

Step 2: Enter the port and an optional name

Open Local Tunnel. Type the port. Type a short name if you want a link like https://my-app.ramg.pro/, or leave the name blank for a random 5-character link.

Step 3: Press Start

Press Start. If that name is already in use, pick another. The page shows the public link and opens the local site.

Step 4: Click the bookmarklet on the local tab

Drag Wivrix Tunnel to the bookmarks bar. On the local site tab, click that bookmark. A dark Live box appears at the bottom right. Keep that tab open. Closing it stops the share.

Step 5: Send the link

Anyone who opens the link sees the site until you press Stop. An unused name is released after 2 minutes. An idle link ends after 30 minutes, and nothing lasts longer than 2 hours.

Tips and questions

Do guests need an app or a code?

No. Guests only open the link. There is nothing to install and no code to type.

What can be shared?

A website served over HTTP on that one port. WebSockets and hot reload are not forwarded. The bookmarklet only relays the site on the tab where you clicked it.

Are the pages uploaded?

No. After the browsers connect, requests go directly between them. The Worker only handles the short name and the connection setup.

Privacy

Page and file bytes are not stored. The Worker keeps the short name and connection setup until you stop, the tab closes, or the session times out.
