Peer Chat — Private P2P Browser Chat

Chat, send files and images directly between browsers. Share a room link like /chat/2/test1. Pairing lasts 10 minutes; messages never touch a server.

Only room pairing and connection details pass through a Cloudflare Worker for up to an hour. Chat, files and images go directly between browsers and are never stored.

🔒 Messages, files and images stream directly between browsers over WebRTC. Only a short pairing handshake uses a Cloudflare Worker, and it is deleted after the room expires — nothing is stored permanently.

What is this tool?

Peer Chat is a temporary chat room for 2 to 5 people that runs directly between browsers. Create a private room with a random, unguessable link (or a short named room), share the link, and chat with text, links, images and files. Messages travel over encrypted WebRTC data channels; the signalling server only pairs browsers during the 10-minute join window. Each connection shows a safety code you can compare to verify the other person, and IP addresses stay hidden unless you choose to show them. Typing indicators and an unread count in the tab title help in busy chats.

How to Use

  1. Enter a display name, keep Private (random link) selected and choose how many people can join (2 to 5).
  2. Click Create room, then Copy link and send it to the people you want to chat with. They can join for 10 minutes.
  3. Once someone joins, open People and compare the safety code with them by voice or in person.
  4. Type a message and press Enter (Shift+Enter for a new line), or send images and files with the buttons or by dropping them on the chat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can see my messages?

Messages, images and files travel directly between the browsers over encrypted WebRTC data channels. A small signalling server only introduces the browsers during the join window and stores nothing permanently.

What is the safety code?

Each connection gets a six-digit code computed from both browsers' encryption fingerprints. If the code on your screen matches the one on the other person's screen, nobody is intercepting the connection. IP addresses are hidden unless you choose to show them.

How large can files be?

Files are sent in chunks with progress bars, up to 1 GB each. The receiving browser holds each file in memory until it finishes, so very large files may fail on phones.
