What is this tool?
Paste a link that points straight at a video or audio file and save it to your device. The tool first checks what the link really is: the server's Content-Type must say video or audio (or, for generic binary files, the address must end in a media extension such as .mp4 or .mp3), so web pages and error pages are never saved as a video. You then get an inline preview with the type, size, duration and resolution before you download. The file is fetched directly from its server when possible, and through the Wivrix file proxy only when the server blocks cross-origin requests. In Chrome and Edge you can save straight to disk instead of holding the file in memory. It does not download from YouTube, social networks or other streaming sites, does not handle streaming playlists, and cannot remove DRM. Only download media you own, have permission to save, or that is free to download under its licence.
How to Use
- Copy a direct link to the media file, for example https://example.com/clip.mp4.
- Paste it into the box and press Check link (or Enter).
- Preview the file and check its type, size, duration and resolution.
- Optionally tick Save straight to disk (Chrome and Edge), then press Download file. Only keep content you have the rights to download.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which links work?
Direct links to a single media file. The server must report a video or audio Content-Type, or the address must end in a media extension such as .mp4, .webm, .mov, .mkv, .mp3, .m4a, .wav or .flac. Links without an extension (for example signed CDN links) work when the server reports video or audio. Page links from YouTube, social networks and streaming services, and HLS or DASH playlists (.m3u8, .mpd), are not supported.
Why was my link rejected as a web page?
The server answered with an HTML page instead of a media file. That usually means the link opens the page a video plays on, a login page, or an error page. Copy the address of the file itself.
Is it legal to download videos this way?
Only download content you own, have the owner's permission to save, or that is free to download under its licence. Downloading copyrighted media without permission can violate copyright law and the terms of the site hosting it. You are responsible for how you use this tool.
Is the URL I paste private?
If the file's server allows cross-origin requests, your browser downloads it directly and the link never reaches Wivrix. Otherwise the link goes through our Cloudflare file proxy only to stream the file to your browser, up to 2 GB per file. We don't keep the link or the file.
Can I save very large files?
Yes, up to 2 GB through the proxy and without a fixed limit for direct downloads. In Chrome and Edge, tick Save straight to disk so the file is written as it arrives. Other browsers hold the whole file in memory until it is saved. To pause and resume big downloads, use the file downloader.
