How to Use the Countdown Timer
- Enter hours, minutes and seconds, or tap one of the preset buttons.
- Press Start — the remaining time also appears in the browser tab title.
- Press Pause to hold the countdown and Start again to resume from the same point.
- When the timer reaches zero an alarm sounds and an on-screen alert appears.
- Switch to the Stopwatch tab to count upwards and record lap times.
Will the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes. The countdown is anchored to a wall-clock finish time rather than counting interval ticks, so it stays accurate even when the browser throttles background tabs. When you return to the tab the display immediately corrects itself to the true remaining time.
Why can't I hear the alarm?
Browsers block audio until you have interacted with the page, so the alarm works as long as you pressed Start yourself. If your device is muted or on silent, the visual alert and the tab title still change. Granting notification permission adds a system notification as a third fallback.
What is the 25 minute preset for?
That is the standard Pomodoro interval — a focused work block followed by a short break. The technique is popular because a fixed, visible deadline reduces the temptation to switch tasks. Use the 5 minute preset for the break in between.
What is the difference between lap and split time?
Lap time is the total elapsed time when you pressed the button. Split time is the gap since the previous lap. Runners use splits to check whether each kilometre is getting faster or slower, while the lap column shows the cumulative time. Both are recorded for every press.
