How is exact age calculated?

Age is counted the way people actually say it: full years first, then whole months, then leftover days. The calculator borrows days from the previous calendar month when needed, which is why the answer stays correct across months of different lengths and across leap years. Someone born on 31 January is one month old on 28 February in a non-leap year, not on 3 March.

Why is the total number of days useful?

Total days is the unambiguous measure. Months vary between 28 and 31 days, so "three months" can mean anywhere from 89 to 92 days. Contracts, medical dosing schedules, visa durations and notice periods are usually counted in days for exactly this reason, and the total days row gives you that number directly.

Does it handle leap years?

Yes. The calculation uses real calendar dates rather than a fixed 365-day year, so 29 February and every leap-year rule is handled automatically. If you were born on 29 February the tool treats 1 March as your anniversary in non-leap years, which is the most common legal convention.

Can I calculate the gap between two past dates?

Yes. The two fields are just a start and an end date — neither has to be a birthday. Use it for project durations, how long you have worked somewhere, gaps between appointments, or how many days remain until a deadline. If you enter the dates the wrong way round the tool swaps them for you.
